Addiction treatment
and recovery can
be done differently
Shane Moyer says the recent Echo Essentials podcasts featuring local politicians, police chief and business representatives didn’t have the street-level perspective. Our podcast today rectifies that oversight.
Moyer, who is trying to help through the Homeless Advocates Association, has gone through addiction treatment, lived on the street and was a criminal during the dark times. He says the Northern Pines transitionary treatment program might work for some, but he is a proponent of a co-operative venture proposal in a more farm-like setting.
They have a 23-page plan that would offer more natural and homeopathic addiction treatment options, he said, while also stressing that a business operation tied to it would help them become self-dependent. Before the interview, co-hosts Scott Clark and Dave Dale discuss other city issues, including the mis-matching City Hall windows.
Upcoming show
features iconic
hardware store
Did you know that North Bay’s Gateway Home Hardware on Algonquin Avenue is built on the property that previously featured a Sunoco Gas Station? And the Widdifield Township’s old police, fire and council office is the store’s adjacent warehouse?
But interesting history is only part of the upcoming 2NBWL podcast recorded this week. The real ‘magic’ of the store’s popularity is its atmosphere where customers and staff become long-time friends and family … as well as being stocked with almost everything under the sun, with staff actually knowing where it is!
Today’s Zen Suggestion:
If you’re fishing for a relationship, be careful about what you use for bait.

To North Bay With Love:
For this week’s 2NBWL podcast, host Lisa Boivin, producer Ben Sargent and content director Dave Dale went on a field trip to the Finch Family Farm’s N7 Cattle Company just inside the North Bay city limits. The trio gathered in Redbridge on Lennox Road to chat with the owners, TJ and Nancy Finch.
Before going on a short tour of the 200-acre farm and mixing in with the livestock, Lisa learns about how they raise and treat their animals…and how that translates into better quality meat. They also share their journey from Alberta to North Bay as Terry returns to his North Bay roots while explaining important parts of farming Black Angus beef, as well as differences between Ontario and Alberta.
In related news breaking Tuesday afternoon, Leon’s North Bay announced the Country Tunes & N7 Cattle Company BBQ Fundraiser Aug. 8-9 in support of the Nipissing Country Music Association. Attendees can taste the naturally-raised, hormone and antibiotic-free N7 burgers for a $7 donation, with proceeds helping the NCMA revive the Country Open Singing Contest in 2025. Follow Leon’s North Bay social media for more information, freezer deals, draws and updates.

Brennain Lloyd, of Northwatch, joins the Echo Essentials podcast to poke holes in nuclear waste storage decisions and the so-called strategy being used at power generation sites, adding that much of it could travel through North Bay via truck convoys for half a century.
Before the discussion, co-hosts Scott Clark asks Dave Dale why they are doing so many podcasts about the environment when they could be drilling into why City Hall windows don’t match.
