Here’s how I painted these donuts using oil into my sketchbook!
Start with your reference photo (and I won’t judge you if you eat the whole box.)
Sketch the drawing in with ballpoint pen, before dripping the entire spread with acrylic ink and brushing over it with a damp brush. Make sure that you start off with a high-quality sketchbook, I am using the Stillman and Birn Zeta series for the spread.
Once the pages have dried, use spray shellac to cope the pages. This will create a seal, and allow you paint on top with oil. The fun part begins! Use oil to create your dazzling donuts, and finish the whole thing off with some metallic ink for extra sparkle. wait a few days before closing the pages to ensure that the spread is dry.
Bon appétit!
