Start an oil botanical illustration sketchbook with me! Can you use oil paint on paper? I never thought you could paint on paper with oil, but the answer is an absolute YES! In this botanical illustration tutorial, I will teach you how to input your drawings with a ballpoint pen, tone the pages with acrylic ink, seal the pages with shellac, paint over top of your sketches, and add in text using India Ink to create a spread that looks like it came straight out of the 19th century. I will also discuss my (multiple) mistakes that I made during the process of creating these pages, and as special thanks for watching, I’ll send you my reference photos so you can paint along with me.
If you’d like access to my reference photos so you can paint along, visit this link and you’ll be emailed your very own copy: https://view.flodesk.com/pages/649a290ac24d5338f158c9bb
I am beyond grateful for your support of my teaching, and if there’s anything you’d like to see in a future video, please don’t hesitate to write me a comment!
