North Bay lost another well-known community contributor with the passing this weekend of Daphne Mayne, 97, a former city councilor, North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce president, longtime downtown businesswoman, and IODE service club member (among many other things). See the early coverage in BayToday. Daphne, who operated Mayne Travel Services with her late husband Peter for 30 years, is the mother of current City Councilor Chris Mayne, who now operates the family business. She was born in 1926, same as the late Ralph Diegel, another downtown icon who passed away March 18. See the YourTV tribute piece about Ralph HERE.

Tax increase
expected to hike
some property bills
by about $170
North Bay City Council is expected to pass the 2024 operating and capital budgets at a special meeting Tuesday, April 2. The overall tax levy increase up for approval is 3.97 per cent, according to BayToday.
How much more cash will that require from household budgets? Every property is impacted differently, because municipal taxes are dependent on market assessments. According to the North Bay and Area REALTORS Association, the average selling price of homes so far this year through the MLS listings was about $417,000. Those new owners will be looking at property tax bills that are about $170 more than what was paid last year.
In a rough calculation, a home in North Bay assessed at $417,000 would be paying just under $7,000. Tell us what your bill was in 2023 at [email protected]
